About this project

Creating a trusted digital foundation for a European ocean partnership.

The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) is a Horizon Europe initiative supporting ocean health, innovation, and sustainable growth across Europe. The project focused on designing the partnership’s first public website, establishing a clear and credible digital presence for a newly formed European initiative.

The Challenge

SBEP was a newly formed EU partnership with growing visibility but no central digital home. Early communication lived across PDFs, press releases, and email updates, making it difficult for stakeholders to understand the partnership, follow active funding calls, or stay engaged over time. The challenge was to introduce a new initiative in a crowded institutional landscape and provide clarity, credibility, and structure from the very first interaction.

The Approach

The website was designed to prioritize clarity, trust, and scalability. Content was structured to help users quickly understand what SBEP is, what is currently active, and how to get involved. The system was built to grow over time, supporting new initiatives, partners, and content without requiring structural redesign.

Setting the direction
The homepage acts as an orientation layer for first-time visitors. It introduces the partnership’s mission, surfaces active funding calls and news, and guides users toward deeper content. The goal was immediate understanding, allowing users to grasp SBEP’s purpose within seconds.
Designed for action
Funding calls are a core function of the partnership. The funding call pages were designed to surface key information at a glance, including deadlines, eligibility, and status. Clear filtering and structured layouts help users move quickly from discovery to application.
What's happening now
News and events provide ongoing visibility into the partnership’s activity. Updates are clearly organized and easy to scan, allowing stakeholders to stay informed and engaged without needing to search through documents or external channels.
Define the Partnership
The “About” section answers the fundamental questions users bring with them: what SBEP is, how it operates, and who is involved. Content hierarchy and structure reinforce transparency, helping establish trust in a complex, multi-stakeholder initiative.
A growing ecosystem
Projects are presented as part of a wider European network. Individual project pages provide context, objectives, and involvement details, helping users understand how each initiative contributes to the partnership’s broader impact.
